SCAA marks National Air Ambulance Week

Scotland's only charity-funded helicopter air ambulance joined air ambulance charities throughout the UK to celebrate National Air Ambulance Week (September 10-16).

To mark the event, Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA) released exclusive photographs of the life-saving service flying past some iconic landmarks.

SCAA, now in its sixth year of operations, has responded to more than 1,880 time-critical emergencies across the whole of Scotland, operating as part of the nation's 999 emergency response network.

While unique in Scotland, SCAA is one of 21 charities operating 39 helicopter air ambulances throughout the UK - funded entirely by public donations.

Throughout the country, an air ambulance helicopter is deployed every 10 minutes - taking expert care to the patient and airlifting them to advanced hospital treatment.

These shots - taken from a media helicopter shadowing SCAA while online in the air - come courtesy of photographer Graeme Hart, Perthshire Picture Agency.

They show Gleneagles Hotel, Stirling Castle and the Wallace Monument.
