Edinburgh Trams on track to support Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance

Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA) has teamed up with Edinburgh Trams to promote its largest ever fundraising challenge event at the iconic Scottish Gas Murrayfield stadium.

Edinburgh Trams will play its part in ferrying thousands of supporters to the stadium on Saturday, May 16, to take part in SCAA’s abseiling and stair climbing challenge. And passengers on the cross-capital network are already seeing advertising for the major event across 18 trams travelling the 11 miles from Newhaven to Edinburgh Airport, encouraging people to sign up for this unique fun-filled fundraiser.

“We’ve also completely taken over one of the trams in our partnership with Edinburgh Trams,” said SCAA’s Director of Development and Engagement Criona Knight. “We’re so immensely proud to see the carriages sporting SCAA messaging and contact details for the Stadium Takeover event.

“It’s going to be a fantastic day at Murrayfield and we hope the people of Scotland will be there to support SCAA and help raise funds to keep our two life-saving helicopters in the air, ensuring that no one in Scotland dies because help can’t get there in time,” she added.

Sponsored supporters can enjoy the thrill of abseiling 98 feet from the roof of the stadium to the pitch side and/or taking on a 4,200 or 7,500 stair climb endurance challenge climbing high into the stands around Murrayfield.

“We know that the people of Scotland will respond to this appeal and we’re delighted that Edinburgh Trams is playing its part in spreading the word and helping to get people to and from the venue on the day,” said Criona.

Ally Petrie, Sales Manager with Edinburgh Trams, said they were proud to play their part in such a worthwhile venture, with several of their employees also signing up to take part and raise funds that will help save lives.

“Abseiling isn’t normally part of my job description here at Edinburgh Trams, but I can’t wait to take on the challenge and do my part to fundraise,” said Ally, who is one of the Edinburgh Trams colleagues taking part in the event.

“We hope that the tram adverts will help to raise awareness and inspire people to take part in the climb or abseil in support of the SCAA and the vital work they do across the country.”

SCAA flies to the aid of patients seriously ill or injured throughout Scotland, ensuring rapid attention by doctor and paramedic-led teams and fast transport to definitive hospital care.

The charity relies entirely on public donations to fund the £10 million needed each year to sustain the country’s only charity-funded air ambulance service.

“Everyone who signs up to climb stairs or drop from the rooftop at Murrayfield will be supporting our life-saving service and ensure that SCAA is there for those who need us most.

“Their personal challenge will literally prove life-saving.”
