With recent flurries of snow icing our Scottish landscapes, our crew have been treated to some spectacular snowscapes while venturing to and from the scene of medical emergencies.
While returning from missions, SCAA pilots and paramedics are able to capture beautiful aerial shots not often seen before. From remote villages and untouched mountains to patchwork farmland and roving hills, Scotland can look a winter wonderland from the sky.
Here are some of our favourite snowscapes as captured by Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance crew…
While beautiful, Scotland’s winters can be treacherous for some. Roads can become dangerous or cut off, ferry access is compromised, and that can often mean SCAA becomes someone’s best chance of survival when critically ill or injured.
Our skilled pilots are trained to navigate winter conditions, whether it be driving rain, snow, high winds or low cloud. Such harsh elements can prove fatal to someone who is critically ill or injured – particularly if they are exposed to these freezing temperatures.
Both SCAA aircrafts have flown to many of Scotland’s islands when high seas have cancelled ferries; to snow-clad hillsides when walkers are stranded, injured and hypothermic; to remote communities where fallen trees have hampered road access; to icebound rural roads where ambulance access to serious accidents is hindered or impossible; and to isolated farms and homes when illness or accidents in the worst of winter weather makes other options impossible.
We are only able to reach those most in need thanks to the support of the Scottish public who fuels this vital lifeline for the entire country.
