What you need to know about SCAA's Run the Runway event

For the very first time, Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance is inviting you to Run the Runway at Perth Airport in support of the charity’s life-saving service.

This unique event takes place on Saturday 6 September from 6pm at Perth Airport in Scone. Participants of all ages are encouraged to sign up for either the 2.5km, 5km, or the 10km route. The flat running route offers the opportunity to enjoy a run on an airport runway whilst raising vital funds to support your local air ambulance service.

By taking on SCAA’s exclusive Run the Runway event and fundraising for the charity you will be helping to raise the sum necessary to launch Operation Skyward – a new, larger air ambulance aircraft for Helimed 79 in Aberdeen.

These operational enhancements will cost the charity an extra £2 million a year to run. This investment is SCAA’s next strategic step in helping to achieve the charity’s ambition that no one in Scotland dies because help cannot get there in time.

The support raised from this new event will go towards enhancing our operations and helping us fuel more life-saving missions all across Scotland.

Run the Runway is open to all ages and children under nine must be accompanied by a registered adult.

The entry fee for the 2.5km run is £12, 5km is £17, and the 10k will cost £22 per person.

Your entry will allow you to run on Perth airport’s runway after it closes at 7pm. You will also receive a SCAA branded t-shirt, bespoke finishers medal, and support to help your fundraising journey including supporting materials.

SCAA’s Events Officer Caryn Whitelaw said: “Run the Runway is such a unique and fun experience to get involved in.

“We’re thrilled to be able to offer the public the chance to run on the runway of one of our air ambulance bases.

“Participants can expect entertainment and a fun warm up before the race. Free snacks and water as well as free parking will be provided on the night. The event will also be chip-timed.”

As you might expect, the route is predominantly on tarmac with a small grassy section. Check-in is open from 6pm to 7pm.

So, are you up for it?
