Mission Review

Tasked through Scotland's 999 emergency response network, SCAA can be airborne within 5 minutes of receiving an emergency call. Here are just some of the call outs we've responded to recently.

SCAA paramedics rendezvoused with a specialist doctor-led team from Glasgow at the scene of an accident during a recent motocross event near Doune. A rider suffered serious lower body injuries in the accident and was airlifted by SCAA - accompanied by the specialist care team - to the Major Trauma Centre at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.

SCAA was deployed to a farm near Elgin recently where a man had been injured in a fall. SCAA paramedics worked with land crew colleagues at the scene of the accident before airlifting the injured man to the Major Trauma Centre at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

A medical emergency saw SCAA's Helimed 79 air ambulance make the flight to the island of Hoy with a specialist doctor-led team. SCAA medics worked alongside a local GP and a Scottish Ambulance Service road crew before airlifting the patient to advanced hospital care in Aberdeen.

SCAA recently airlifted a doctor-led critical care team to the scene of a road traffic collision on a rural road near Banff. A female passenger injured in the crash was then airlifted to the Major Trauma Centre at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary by our crew in just 16 minutes. The equivalent journey by road would have taken over an hour.

It’s always a privilege to repatriate patients back home to more remote communities following a stay in hospital, providing continuous care during the transfer. Following care at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, SCAA airlifted a woman back to her home island of Barra. Helimed 76 refuelled at Tiree on route to Barra and once again on the return flight back to its Perth base.
