Mission Review

Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance operates two helicopter air ambulances - Helimed 76 based in Perth and Helimed 79 based in Aberdeen. Tasked through Scotland's 999 emergency response network, here are just some of the call outs we've responded to recently.

A woman trampled by a horse in an accident in Fife was airlifted to hospital trauma care by SCAA in just 10 minutes. SCAA flew to the Cupar area where the horsewoman sustained hip injuries in the accident. Landing close to the accident scene, SCAA paramedics worked alongside Scottish Ambulance Service land crew colleagues and Police Scotland before airlifting the patient to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.

SCAA was quickly on scene with a specialist doctor-led team when a man was injured by a falling tree in a rural setting near Laurencekirk recently. The team worked alongside Scottish Ambulance Service road crew colleagues at the accident scene before the injured man was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

A woman recently injured in a motorbike accident near Keith was airlifted by SCAA to the Major Trauma Centre in Aberdeen in less than 20 minutes - saving on a road journey of more than an hour. SCAA also flew a specialist team to the scene who accompanied and cared for the injured woman on the flight to hospital.

SCAA flew a critical care team to Cruden Bay where a youngster was injured in a fall. The child was airlifted to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for specialist care in just over half an hour.

SCAA was recently part of a major emergency services response to a road traffic collision near Fraserburgh. SCAA paramedics worked alongside colleagues from Police Scotland, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, Emergency Medical Retrieval Service, Special Operations Response Team and the Scottish Ambulance Service at the scene before airlifting an injured man to the Major Trauma Centre at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. The flight to hospital took less than 20 minutes compared to almost an hour by road.

SCAA ensured a hospital patient was flown home to Orkney safely and comfortably following treatment at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. The patient was flown to Balfour Hospital in Kirkwall in under an hour, saving a long and stressful road and ferry journey by land ambulance.
