Mission Review

Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance operates two helicopter air ambulances - Helimed 76 based in Perth and Helimed 79 based in Aberdeen. Our crews are often tasked to some of Scotland's remotest communities, including her many islands. Here are just some of the emergency call outs we've responded to recently.

SCAA was quickly on scene when a teenager was injured in a mountain bike accident in a rural part of Grampian recently. Our air ambulance helicopter landed nearby and then airlifted the boy to advanced care at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary - less than a 15 minute flight away.

SCAA's Helimed 79 air ambulance was deployed to help at the scene of a motorcycle accident in Glenshee recently. A woman rider sustained a shoulder injury when she fell from her motorcycle while on a ride out with friends. The helicopter air ambulance had to land in a field a short distance from the scene and Scottish Ambulance Service colleagues transferred the patient in a land ambulance to the waiting aircraft. SCAA then airlifted the woman to Ninewells Hospital at Dundee in under 15 minutes - a journey that would take over an hour by road.

SCAA flew to support Scottish Ambulance Service land crew colleagues when a golfer collapsed at Braemar Golf Course recently. SCAA paramedics assisted at the scene before the man was taken by land ambulance to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, freeing the airborne team up for its next emergency.

SCAA's Helimed 76 air ambulance was quickly on scene when a parachutist injured herself on landing at Strathallan Airfield recently. The injured woman was airlifted in just minutes to hospital care at Ninewells, Dundee.

When a man injured in a fall on the remote Orkney island of Sanday required hospital assessment for his injuries, SCAA was deployed to fly the patient quickly and comfortably from the outer island to hospital care in Kirkwall.

SCAA was part of a multi-service response to a road traffic accident at Laggan, near Newtonmore, recently. SCAA paramedics worked alongside Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, Police Scotland and Scottish Ambulance Service colleagues at the scene where several people had been injured when a car rolled off the road. SCAA then airlifted one of the injured to advanced care at Raigmore Hospital, Inverness in under 20 minutes - a journey which would have taken over an hour by road.
