SCAA's name in lights for festive fundraiser

A north-east man who has been lighting up the lives of local charities for years has turned the spotlight on Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance for his 2021 Christmas illuminations.

Each year, Callum Stuart transforms the bungalow and garden where he lives with his Gran in Keith into a Winter Festival, raising thousands from those who visit the Christmas lights display.

"We've always supported local charities but this year I canvassed supporters on Facebook to see which national cause we should get behind this year," said Callum.

"Nearly half of the responses were for SCAA so it's a popular choice with the public.

"We've even added an illuminated mini helicopter that the kids can sit in to our display this year, reflecting the air ambulance charity."

Hundreds off thousands of lights adorn Callum's home and this year he claims the display is "bigger and better than ever".

"SCAA's crews will be able to see it from the air," he laughed. "We see them fly overhead regularly and they've even landed beside our house to reach patients in the town.

"SCAA does an amazing job - they're real lifesavers for a rural community like ours where the nearest major hospital is an hour away by road. We're happy to support them in their work through our display."

Callum, who works with the local authority, spends a lot of his spare time sourcing, making and repairing display items between the festive airings.

Over 300 people showed up for the 2021 grand opening of the display earlier this month with hundreds more travelling from far and wide to view the popular attraction.

"It's become quite a thing," said Callum. "I love to see the children's faces when they see all the lights and the different items and creatures in the displays. And Gran just loves getting on the chat with all the visitors. It's part of our Christmas and we really enjoy it."

The display at Seafield Park on the A96 can be viewed between 4pm and 10pm daily until January 5.

Donations can be made in person at the site or via Just Giving by clicking here.

This year's display will also support the local Keith branch of Assistance Dogs Scotland and Keith Community Christmas Lights.
